Colombo Liaison Office

In July 1968, with the permission of the Sri Lankan government which at the time was a socialist Country, Tozai Boeki Kaisha became the first Japanese trading company to establish a liaison office in Colombo. More than four decades have passed, and Tozai Boeki Kaisha,Japan has maintained its trading ties with Sri Lanka.

Business in Sri Lanka started with the export of Chemical fertilizer (ammonium sulfate), but as Sri Lanka is an agricultural country that produces Paddy and tea, business expanded to include other farm-related products such as agricultural machinery and agro chemicals. This business includes, not only private trading but also Official Development Assistance (2KR) between the government of Japan and Sri Lanka.

The liaison office in Sri Lanka also imports synthetic rubber for use in making surgical gloves, examination gloves, and other industrial chemicals. We plan on promoting the export of local products, such as tea, rubber products, coconut products, wooden products, compost fertilizer, and so on, and to promote trade among China, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.

Message from Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is an island known as “the pearl of the Indian Ocean.” It is also known for it’s precious gems such as Blue sapphires, Star sapphires, Star rubies, and cat’s eye gems. The island’s beaches are peaceful and filled with bright sunshine all year round.  Sri Lanka has a number of important tourist destinations that are perfect for water activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, wind surfing, and water skiing, etc.

In addition to the magnificient beaches along it’s coast, Sri Lanka is covered with mountains, impressive waterfalls, astonishingly beautiful lakes, and lush  paddy fields. The hilly areas are covered with tea plantation and the country is well known for selling and producing Ceylon black tea. Sri Lanka’s other main exports are rubber and coconuts.

In addition to the country’s beautiful and breathtaking nature, the people of Sri Lanka are known for their friendly hospitality and modesty. Seventy-three percent of the Sri Lanka’s multicultural society are Sinhalese, seventeen percent are Tamil, and the rest are practitioners of Islam and other religions (people from the Netherlands, Malayans, etc.).

Sri Lanka is also the home of famous cultural relics which have been passed down for more than 2500 years. For example, the fortress of Sigiriya and its frescoes, is a world-famous heritage that was once considered as one of the eight wonders of the world. The “Temple 0f the Tooth Relic” in Kandy is worshipped by the Buddhists, all over the world.
