History
Ever since Tozai Boeki Kaisha was founded in 1958, our belief that “good and sustained human relations are the fundamental key to successful business” has inspired us to develop relationships of trust with our business partners. We have built our trading business on key industries that represent Japan, such as the chemical and heavy industries and the machine/equipment industry. And as our name (which literally means “East–West Trading”) suggests, we have always had our sights on expanding throughout the world. Today, even as world affairs move at a dizzying pace, we have not lost sight of our founding spirit and are working hard to achieve new breakthroughs.
In 1947, after GHQ dissolved Japan’s zaibatsu and dismantled the former Mitsubishi Corporation, Tozai Boeki Kaisha founder Seiichi Sawada left Mitsubishi. He joined the Tokyo Boeki Group in 1950, and after serving the Group as director of chemical fertilizers and deputy director of crop fertilizers, he founded Tozai Boeki Kaisha with four of his colleagues.
